With reference to your letter to Whitamore of the 7th September, regarding the Chinese Customs Office at Hong Kong, I enclose a copy of a telegram from Shanghai putting forward a suggestion made to Broadmead by Sir Frederick Maze, the Inspector- General of Customs.
2. We see no objection to Sir Frederick Maze's suggestion. If you agree, will you please so inform the Governor of Hong Kong.
